Position description
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) performs clinical
anesthesia duties and takes appropriate responsibility for direct
patient care and for on-call as assigned. The CRNA prioritizes
anesthetic decisions, administers anesthetic agents under
department protocols and guidelines, and communicates patient
status to healthcare team members. This individual performs
coordinating duties by facilitating staff coverage, assignments,
and breaks in the operating room area. This individual must
demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development
of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the
patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative
to the patient's age-specific needs is required. The CRNA
demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and/or
team projects, education, and research and actively seeks to
improve the practice of nursing through performance improvement
initiatives. This individual is active in professional
organizations and participates in community activities. The
American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing: Scope and Standards of
Practice (2004), the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses (2001), and
Rules of the Arizona State Board of Nursing (2005) are the basis
for practice.
Qualifications
Graduation from a nationally accredited anesthesia program.
Additional qualifications
Doctorate Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) or Doctorate Nursing
Practice (DNP) preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with:
Communication and interpersonal skills; Flexibility to adjust
schedule to meet patient and staff needs; and Ability to manage
time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations
within the patient care setting. Demonstrated leadership ability
and strong computer skills preferred.
License or certification
Current Arizona licensure as a Registered Nurse and a Certified
Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Certification from the American
Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Advanced Cardiac Life Support
(ACLS) certification and Basic Life Support certification is
required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from
start date.
Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS) competencies.
